Sometimes our memories are short. Can you remember all the details of the project you worked on last month? How about a year ago?
There are many situations when you can benefit from having details of your accomplishments.
One of the best ways to prepare for a time when you will need to share your accomplishments is to collect the details of your achievements as you go along. So there’s no better time than now to start!
7 REASONS PHARMACISTS SHOULD COLLECT THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
(1) To add impact to your resume and set you apart from other job applicants
(2) To support your candidacy and qualifications during a job interview
(3) To give constructive examples for performance evaluations and reviews
(4) To justify your case for a raise or a promotion
(5) To set professional goals for the next year
(6) To track the impact or progress of projects you’re working on
(7) As ammunition for recognition awards
Quantifying your accomplishments also helps you stand out from others who do the work you do—whether you’re using the information for a raise or promotion request, or when seeking a new job opportunity. That’s because accomplishments go beyond the basic job duties and responsibilities.
There is also value in simply collecting and reflecting on your personal and professional accomplishments. If you don’t “toot your own horn,” who will.
Communicating accomplishments to your boss in an “end of year review” can help showcase what you’ve done and the value you add to the organization.
This is even more important if your performance review process does not include a self-evaluation component. If it does, fill it with the information you’ve collected. Several times the achievements I noted on my self-evaluation were listed word for word in my performance appraisal. In this case, a little horn tooting paid off.
When cutbacks loom, pharmacy management might weigh the value you’ve proven when deciding which pharmacists stay and which ones go. Accomplishments demonstrate your skills and experience. It’s one thing to claim you can do something—it’s another to prove you’ve done it. So don’t delay, start collecting!
